In Wisconsin, there isn’t a statewide law banning the use of so-called gay conversion therapy on minors. This scientifically discredited therapy is generally counseling that attempts to change a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity. For kids and teens who endure it, the impact can be devastating.

Logan grew up in a religious family in a small town in southeastern Wisconsin. He says he didn’t learn much about homosexuality except that it was against the will of God. As a young teen, Logan started to experiment with other boys around his age, rumors spread and “conversion therapy” began. From that moment on, everything in his life was fundamentally changed. Logan is his middle name, he asked that we do not use his full name given the nature of his experiences. […]

But I would lie because I was tired of making my parents cry. And then eventually the weight of the lie would grow to be too much that I would confess. … And it’s one of the biggest reasons why I don’t have that much of a relationship with my family anymore is because of all the lying that I did.

OUR THOUGHTS

In a tragic story about “conversion therapy”, Logan tells a story how HE was unable to change his sexual orientation. This is a common trap of false Christianity, a works based religious belief that one can “pray the gay away” and work hard enough to ‘straighten out’.

The truth is self righteousness never works. Jesus is the one who does the work on the heart and mind of a repentant individual. Jesus heals and sanctifies. It’s not our work, but his.

There is nothing you can do in self righteousness to ‘straighten out’. We will explain how this trap works and how to find freedom in the MINISTERS and SANCTUARY resources of Change For A Dollar. There is freedom for the repentant former homosexual.

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

– Ephesians 2:10 (ESV)

Logan didn’t have secure attachment, a safe and trusting relationship with his parents. He admits he wasn’t honest and implied the parents were unable to handle the situation themselves. This is where CHANGE FOR A DOLLAR comes in. We will equip parents and the struggler with truths that will lean into Jesus and His grace for sanctification and teach everyone how to bear one another’s burdens with safe boundaries to prevent shame from entering in.
