The Old Covenant, with its temple and sacrifices, pointed to the coming of Jesus, who fulfills and surpasses it. Through His death and resurrection, Jesus establishes a New Covenant, writing His law on our hearts and making us temples of the Holy Spirit.
Growth Beyond Elementary Teachings
As believers, we are called to mature in our faith, moving from the elementary teachings of Christianity to a deeper understanding and practice of righteousness. This growth involves regular engagement with Scripture and the application of its truths to our lives.
The Call to Obedience and Discernment
Jesus’ perfect obedience to the Father serves as a model for us. We are called to obey Him and, through reading of the Bible and by leading of the Holy Spirit, train our senses to discern good and evil. This discernment is crucial for living a life that pleases God and remains in His righteousness.
Understanding the Role of Jesus as Our High Priest
Jesus: The Ultimate Mediator Between God and Humanity
In the Book of Hebrews, we find a profound exploration of Jesus’ role as our High Priest. Unlike the priests of the Old Covenant who were chosen from among men to represent the people before God, Jesus stands as the perfect mediator. He is not just a representative; He is the embodiment of the New Covenant, fulfilling and surpassing the old priesthood.
The Compassionate High Priest
Jesus, our High Priest, is not one to judge harshly but to deal gently with our weaknesses and ignorance. He understands our struggles because He, too, experienced testing and suffering, yet without sin. His sympathy for us is sincere, and He intercedes for us effectively, offering not temporary sacrifices, but a permanent solution through His sacrifice on the cross.
The Perfect Sacrifice
The sacrifices of the Old Testament, even those for unintentional sins, were costly and repetitive. However, Jesus’ sacrifice was once and for all, eliminating the need for continual offerings. His perfection and obedience to the Father made Him the ultimate sacrifice, one that was sufficient to cover all our sins.
Jesus and Melchizedek: A Superior Priesthood
The priesthood of Jesus is likened to that of Melchizedek, a mysterious figure who was both a king and a priest. This comparison emphasizes Jesus’ unique position as the eternal mediator of a better covenant, combining the roles of king and priest in Himself.
The New Temple: Our Bodies
With the destruction of the physical temple in 70AD, the focus of God’s spirit dwelling on the Earth shifts to a new temple— us, the believers. Through Jesus’ sacrifice, we have become the dwelling place of the Holy Spirit. Our bodies are now the temples where God’s presence resides.
The Danger of Spiritual Stagnation
A stern warning is given against becoming dull of hearing and stagnating in spiritual infancy. Believers are encouraged to move beyond the elementary teachings and to mature in their faith, consuming the solid food of God’s Word, which trains us to discern good from evil and allows us to live in God’s righteousness.
Embracing Righteousness Through Obedience
Righteousness is not about legalistic adherence to the law but about a transformed heart that seeks to obey God out of love. Jesus, our High Priest, teaches us to walk in obedience, not to earn salvation, but as a response to the grace we have received.

Nuevo Pacto en Jesús

Crecimiento más allá de las enseñanzas elementales

Jesús: el mediador supremo entre Dios y la humanidad
En el libro de Hebreos, encontramos una profunda exploración del papel de Jesús como nuestro Sumo Sacerdote. A diferencia de los sacerdotes de la Antigua Alianza, que fueron escogidos de entre los hombres para representar al pueblo ante Dios, Jesús es el mediador perfecto. El Sumo Sacerdote Compasivo
Jesús, nuestro Sumo Sacerdote, no es de los que juzgan con dureza, sino de los que tratan con delicadeza nuestras debilidades e ignorancia. Él entiende nuestras luchas porque Él también experimentó pruebas y sufrimiento, pero sin pecado. Su simpatía por nosotros es sincera, e intercede por nosotros eficazmente, ofreciendo no sacrificios temporales, sino una solución permanente a través de su sacrificio en la cruz.
El sacrificio perfecto
Los sacrificios del Antiguo Testamento, incluso aquellos por pecados no intencionales, eran costosos y repetitivos.
